What do you do if you’re caught off guard when you first arrive in the state?
It can take up to a week to recover, but you can start by making sure you have everything you need to survive.
Here’s a list of everything you’ll need to know to get through the desert:1.
The sandstorms are relentless.
In addition to the heat, the sand can be extremely hot.
Wear comfortable clothes and avoid sun exposure.2.
Bring an emergency kit.
Pack a water bottle, flashlight, emergency phone, extra blankets and a backpack.
Bring extra food and water.3.
Avoid wearing sunscreens while hiking or walking, as the heat can burn through your skin and make you dehydrated.4.
Make sure your car is equipped with an air-conditioning unit.
If you can, get a portable generator and solar panels.
If you don’t have one, a home battery can provide enough power.5.
Drink plenty of water and eat a lot of fresh food.6.
Wear a hat.
You can also wear a hat if you prefer.7.
Be aware of the sandstorms.
There’s a high chance you’ll be caught by a sandstorm.
Always keep an eye on the horizon and make sure your compass is pointed downwind of the storm.8.
Have a plan.
This is not an easy job, and it’s not as easy to find your way back if you get lost.
But it’s worth it if you can’t make it to your destination.
