NEW YORK (AP) New York’s Rangers are one of the NHLs hottest teams.
And they are the most popular in the league.
The New York Post’s Mark Maske reported Monday on an online survey by Nielsen, which uses data from the National Hockey League to track teams’ popularity.
Nielsen found that the Rangers are No. 1 among teams in popularity with 17.6 percent of the league’s fans.
They were followed by the Edmonton Oilers (15.9 percent), Minnesota Wild (15 percent) and St. Louis Blues (14 percent).
The Devils are at No. 5 with 10.1 percent.
The Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning each have 4.9 and 4.3 percent, respectively.
New York is the league leader in popularity among hockey fans.
In terms of the overall NHL, only the Washington Capitals are among teams with a higher percentage of fans saying they are fans of their team than New York.
The Capitals are at 45.4 percent.
They are the second-most popular team in the NHL behind the Nashville Predators with 44.4.
The Nashville Predators and Chicago Blackhawks are the other teams with an above-average number of fans in the general population.
They have a combined 4.2 percent.
